Legs on animals
Cats, dogs, horses and chairs have 4 legs. How many legs on 6 dogs? That’s 6 × 4.
The pattern in the 4s
The last digit of each answer, from 4 × 1 to 4 × 12. They go around in a loop of 5, so once your child spots it, they can check any answer.

Questions parents ask
How can my child learn the 4 times table?
Five minutes a day beats an hour on Sunday. Start with the facts they already know from other tables (turn 4 × 5 around and it’s 5 × 4), then learn one trick: double the number and double it again. Then play: answering from memory, again and again, is what makes facts stick, and a game makes them want to.
