The Sutton 11+
Sutton’s grammar schools share a first test, the Selective Eligibility Test (SET): a multiple-choice English paper and a maths paper. Those who pass go on to second stage papers with written answers, and each school sets its own pass marks after marking.

The papers
Stage 1 SET: a multiple choice maths paper and a multiple choice English paper, 40 to 50 minutes each with a break between; answers marked on a separate sheet (A to E lozenges); no verbal or non-verbal reasoning, no negative marking, no rough paper. Boys' shared second stage (Sutton Grammar, Wallington County Grammar, Wilson's): an English paper and a maths paper, written answers, about 45 minutes to 1 hour each, morning only. Girls' second stage (NWSSEE, for Nonsuch and Wallington Girls): an English paper and a maths paper, written answers, 40 to 50 minutes each, no comprehension paper; maths working gets no marks. Content is broadly the Key Stage 2 curriculum.
With Exam Prep, Thena sets practice papers in your child’s test’s style and goes over every mistake with them on her board: £49 a month with the Solo plan.

What score qualifies in Sutton?
There is no published pass mark: each school sets its own SET pass mark after marking, on the total of both papers (age-standardised). Greenshaw High School uses the SET only, for its 60 ability places. Sutton Grammar: four standardised scores (SET English, SET maths, second stage English, second stage maths) weighted 2:2:3:3, plus an age allowance, rounded to the nearest four marks; marks are also adjusted for income deprivation (IDACI). Wilson's: SET and the two second stage papers in the ratio 1:2:2, and a boy must pass both second stage papers and the overall mark. Nonsuch and Wallington Girls: final total is the SET score (re-standardised and halved) plus the standardised NWSSEE English and maths scores, and a girl must pass both NWSSEE papers; registered Pupil Premium girls can be up to 20% below the standardised pass marks. Wallington County Grammar sets its own combination. Passing does not guarantee a place.

Good to know
Late testing and moving to the area
No late registrations and no overseas testing. The only other sitting of the SET or the second stage is for a child not fit to sit on the day, with a medical certificate, and the family must email before the session starts.
Who runs admissions
Each school is its own admission authority (separate academies and trusts); the London Borough of Sutton coordinates applications through the Pan London eAdmissions system. The SET registration form serves as every participating school's supplementary form.
