Admissions
The test
Two stages: the Sutton Selective Eligibility Test (SET), multiple-choice English and Maths papers shared by six Sutton schools, then a written second stage test in English and Maths common to Sutton Grammar School, Wallington County Grammar School and Wilson's School.
What qualifies
Boys must pass the SET (the school sets its own pass mark) and then reach the school's required standard on the SET and second stage together: four standardised scores (SET English, SET Maths, second stage English, second stage Maths) weighted 2:2:3:3, plus an age allowance, rounded to the nearest 4 marks. Marks are also adjusted for income deprivation (the 2019 IDACI index); pass marks are not stated in advance and none are published.
Who gets priority
After boys with an EHCP naming the school, eligible boys are ranked: looked after and previously looked after children; children of staff employed at the school for at least 2 years; up to 10 places for boys eligible for pupil premium living in postcodes SM1 to SM7, KT4, KT17, CR0 4 or CR4; 75 places by combined score for boys living in those postcodes; then the remaining places by combined score from any postcode. Ties are broken by straight-line distance to the school's front door in Manor Lane; there is no sibling priority.
Registering
Families registered online for the SET on the website of any of the six SET schools from 1 May to midnight on 31 July 2026. The SET was on 15 September 2026 and the second stage test on 3 October 2026, with outcomes emailed before the council form deadline of 31 October 2026.
Open events
The Year 7 open evening is usually in September: the latest was on 23 September 2026 (4:45pm to 8pm, no booking needed), for boys in Year 5.
Good to know
A boys' grammar school with a sixth form that also admits girls. The applicants figure is the number of council application forms naming the school as any preference for September 2026 entry (DfE applications and offers statistics), when 160 places were offered; no count of boys sitting the SET is published. Passing both stages does not guarantee a place; offers come from the home council on 1 March 2027, the waiting list runs to 31 December of the year of entry, and the appeal deadline is 16 April 2027.
