Admissions

The test

Tiffin School's own two-stage test in English and Maths, written each year with the assessment company Quest: a multiple-choice Stage One marked by computer, then written-answer Stage Two papers for the boys invited back.

What qualifies

There is no fixed pass mark. Boys invited to Stage Two are ranked on a Combined Score (50% English, 50% Maths, with Maths combining Stage One and Stage Two in the ratio 2:3, all standardised and age-weighted). For 2026 entry the lowest score offered a place on 1 March was 100 and the cut-off by the end of Year 7 was 97 (100 and 98 for 2025 entry).

Who gets priority

After boys with an EHCP naming the school, looked after and previously looked after children and boys eligible for pupil premium who live in the 10 km Priority Area and score at or above the 450th ranked Combined Score come first; then boys in the Priority Area (under 10 km in a straight line from the school) by score, then boys outside it. Up to 18 places (9 sport, 9 music) go to Priority Area boys who pass the aptitude assessments and score at or above the 450th ranked score, and these groups also get a 10% leeway on the Stage One score. There is no sibling priority; ties are broken by distance.

Registering

Families registered online through the school's Admissions Portal (Applicaa) by completing the Supplementary Information Form, open from midday on 5 June 2026; the deadline was 12 noon on 1 September 2026 in the FAQs (the policy says 12 noon on 2 September 2026), and 9am on 6 July 2026 for the sport and music aptitude assessments. Stage One was on 2 October 2026 at Tiffin School, invitations to Stage Two went out on 16 October 2026 and Stage Two is on 12 November 2026; the school must also be named on the home council's form by 31 October 2026.

Open events

The Year 7 open evening for September 2027 entry was on 30 June 2026 (no booking needed); the Sixth Form open evening was on 13 October 2026.

Good to know

A superselective boys' school with a co-educational Sixth Form (about 120 new students a year, about 80 of them girls; external Sixth Form PAN 90). The applicants figure is boys tested at Stage One for 2026 entry (665 sat Stage Two and 186 places were offered); every place in 2024, 2025 and 2026 went to boys living within 10 km. A boy may sit the test only once; offers come from the home council on 1 March 2027 and scores go only to boys not offered a place. In 2026, 15 pupil premium boys were offered places, and 16 appeals were heard with none successful.

Not confirmed yet

  • The Stage One registration deadline: the 2027 policy and the key dates list say 12 noon on 2 September 2026, the FAQs and the top of the admissions page say 12 noon on 1 September 2026.
  • Year 7 places: the FAQs for September 2027 entry give an intake of 186 (six forms of 31), up from the 2026 admission number of 180, but the 2027 policy's waiting list still makes an offer when Year 7 falls below 180. Applicants per place are 2026 entry's, on 180 places.
