The Kingston 11+: the Tiffin schools

Kingston’s two grammar schools, Tiffin School and The Tiffin Girls’ School, each run their own test in two stages. Both test English and maths, assume the Year 5 curriculum, and test only at their own school.

For 2026 entry: Tiffin School tested 1,866 boys at Stage One and 665 at Stage Two; The Tiffin Girls' School tested 1,468 girls at Stage One and 474 at Stage Two (schools' published admissions data).

The papers

Tiffin School (boys): Stage One is an English test and a maths test, about 40 to 60 minutes each with a short break, answers on a computer-marked OMR sheet; Stage Two is English and maths of similar length with handwritten answers. The Tiffin Girls' School: Stage One is an English paper (multiple choice) and a maths paper (some multiple choice, some numerical answers gridded on the OMR sheet), each under 60 minutes; Stage Two is English (reading comprehension and a creative writing task) and maths with written answers, similar length. Both schools assume the Year 5 National Curriculum and test only on their own site.

The 2027 test: not published yet. The 2026 test: Tiffin School: Stage One Friday 2 October 2026 (morning or afternoon slot), Stage Two Thursday 12 November 2026. The Tiffin Girls' School: Stage One Thursday 1 and Friday 2 October 2026 (four sessions, date allocated), Stage Two Saturday 7 November 2026.

How do you register for the 11+ in Kingston upon Thames?

For the 2027 test (2028 entry): not published yet. For the 2026 test (2027 entry): Tiffin School: midday Friday 5 June to 12 noon Tuesday 1 September 2026 (9am Monday 6 July 2026 for the sport and music aptitude assessments). The Tiffin Girls' School: Tuesday 2 June to 12 noon Tuesday 1 September 2026. No late registrations.

When do 11+ results come out in Kingston upon Thames?

For the 2026 test: Stage Two invitations: Tiffin School on or around Friday 16 October 2026, The Tiffin Girls' School on or around Wednesday 14 October 2026, both before the 31 October deadline. Final outcomes come with offers on Monday 1 March 2027; Tiffin School emails scores soon after to boys not offered a place, and Tiffin Girls' emails Stage Two results on Tuesday 2 March 2027 to girls on its waiting list.

What score qualifies in Kingston upon Thames?

Ranked by score, not a fixed pass mark. Tiffin School: the Stage One score (English and maths, standardised, age-weighted, averaged) decides who is invited to Stage Two, at least enough to fill the 186 places, with a 10% leeway for looked after, Pupil Premium and aptitude boys in the Priority Area; the Combined Score is 50% English (Stage Two) and 50% maths (Stage One and Stage Two in the ratio 2:3); boys in the 10km Priority Area are ranked first, with priority for looked after and Pupil Premium boys at or above the 450th ranked score and up to 18 sport and music places. For 2026 entry the lowest score offered on 1 March was 100 (cut-off by end of Year 7: 97). The Tiffin Girls' School: Stage One decides invitations, at least enough to fill the 180 places; the Combined Mark is 60% English (Stage Two) and 40% maths (Stage Two and Stage One in the ratio 3:1); up to 60 places go first to Pupil Premium girls in the catchment and girls in the Inner Area scoring at or above the 350th ranked mark, then the rest by rank within the Designated Area (44 postal districts); looked after and Pupil Premium girls get a 10% leeway.

  • The Tiffin Girls' School does not name a provider for its Stage One test.
  • The Tiffin Girls' School's cut-off scores were not found in the documents read.
  • Dates for the September 2027 tests (2028 entry) are not yet published by either school.
  • Tiffin School's key dates list shows the Stage One deadline as 12:00 on 2 September 2026, while its policy, FAQ and page text say 12 noon Tuesday 1 September 2026.

Good to know

Late testing and moving to the area

No late registrations. A child unwell on the day should not attend; the family emails the school on the day (with evidence, at Tiffin Girls') and the school arranges another date. A child who falls ill during a test must finish the paper already started and sits the other paper later. Each child can sit the tests once.

Who runs admissions

Each school is its own admission authority; Kingston's local authority (Kingston School Admissions) coordinates applications, verifies addresses and makes offers.
