Admissions

The test

Queen Elizabeth's own entrance test, sat at the school in one session and one round: two multiple-choice papers, one in English and one in Maths, marked and age-standardised by the test provider.

What qualifies

Boys with a combined standardised score of 225 or higher meet the Governors' standard and may apply; places then go strictly in order of combined score. The lowest score gaining a place (excluding appeals) was 235 for both 2024 and 2025 entry (232 for 2021, 234 for 2022, 232 for 2023).

Who gets priority

None beyond the test score: the 180 places go to the highest-ranked boys who reached the standard and named the school, with no catchment area, pupil premium places, sibling or aptitude priority. Distance in a straight line to the main school gate only breaks equal scores, followed by a random ballot.

Registering

Families registered by submitting the school's online entrance test request form from 1 May 2026 to noon on 8 July 2026 (no Supplementary Information Form is needed). The tests were on 16 and 17 September 2026 (reserve date 23 September 2026) and outcomes were due on 1 October 2026, before the home council's application deadline; offers come on 1 March 2027.

Open events

The Open Day is usually on the first Thursday in July: it was on 2 July 2026, with priority for boys registered for the test. Boys who reach the standard are invited to book a school tour in early to mid-October.

Good to know

A superselective, non-denominational boys' grammar school (academy) for ages 11 to 18; there is no formal point of entry to the Sixth Form and the school does not admit external students into it, so girls are not admitted at any stage. The applicants figure is boys taking the entrance test for 2025 entry (764 reached the standard and 809 applied); DfE figures show 763 council application forms naming the school for 2026 entry. The policy is published only as the school's admissions guide on Issuu, the waiting list is kept until 31 December 2027, and appeals go to an independent panel.

Not confirmed yet

  • The number of boys who took the test for 2026 or 2027 entry (the guide gives figures only up to 2025 entry).
  • The guide's table note says the minimum score was raised from 210 to 220 from 2024 entry, while the 2027 criteria and FAQs say 225; the year 225 was introduced is not stated.
