Alcester Grammar School

Alcester Grammar School is a mixed grammar school with 150 Year 7 places, using the West Midlands test that Warwickshire County Council runs. A Committee of Reference sets its qualifying score after each test (225 for 2026 entry), and places go first to children in its priority circle around Stratford-upon-Avon.

820 for 2026 entry, about 5.5 for each place. This counts the times the school was named on local authority application forms; the school says 2,405 on-time candidates sat Warwickshire’s test in September 2026 for all six county grammar schools.

Applicants figures aren’t counted the same way at every school, so they don’t compare from one school to another.

Admissions

The test

The West Midlands Grammar Schools 11+ test (GL Assessment), run in Warwickshire by Warwickshire County Council and shared with the Birmingham grammar schools: two multiple-choice papers covering English, verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and maths, standardised and weighted.

What qualifies

A Committee of Reference sets an Automatic Qualifying Score and a lower waiting-list score each year (for 2027 entry, after the 31 December 2026 address deadline). For 2026 entry the Automatic Qualifying Score was 225 and the waiting-list score 220; 143 priority-area children were offered places down to a score of 227, and none outside the area.

Who gets priority

The priority area is a circle of radius 16.936 miles from the Fountain in Rother Street, Stratford-upon-Avon. After children with an EHCP naming the school, places go to looked after and previously looked after children, then pupil premium (free school meals) children in the priority circle, each on the Automatic Qualifying Score or up to 20 marks below it (20 places at most below it); then priority-area children at or above the score, by score; then children outside the area; then those between the waiting-list and qualifying scores. Equal scores are split by straight-line distance; siblings get no priority.

Registering

Families registered through Warwickshire's Parent Portal from 7 May to 4pm on 30 June 2026 (Birmingham families through the Grammar Schools in Birmingham, with scores shared if asked). The tests were on 12 and 13 September 2026, results went on the Parent Portal on 16 October 2026 and applications were due to the home council by 31 October 2026.

Open events

Year 6 open mornings were held in September 2026; the Year 5 open evening is in June 2027 and the Sixth Form Open Evening in November 2026.

Good to know

Co-educational 11 to 18; the sixth form admits boys and girls from anywhere (48 points across the best 8 GCSEs, or 46 for pupil premium, looked after or EHCP students). Warwickshire asks for proof of address in early December, due by 31 December 2026, and a later move counts only after the 1 March 2027 offers. The 2027 policy widens the margin below the qualifying score for looked after and pupil premium children from 15 to 20 marks. 2405 on-time candidates sat Warwickshire's test in September 2026 for all 6 county grammar schools. The applicants figure is the number of times the school was named on local authority forms for 2026 entry (293 as first preference), from DfE school-level data. Appeals are run by Warwickshire Admissions.
