The papers

English and maths papers with multiple-choice and written-response questions, marked by computer, age-standardised and combined into a total standardised age score; children with an eligible score then have a creative writing task assessed. Content is limited to the Key Stage 2 curriculum taught up to the end of Year 5. All papers are sat on one day at the school. The number and length of the papers are not published.

How do you register for the 11+ in Kirklees (Heckmondwike)?

For the 2027 test (2028 entry): Registration closes at 12 noon on Monday 28 June 2027 (opening date not yet stated). For the 2026 test (2027 entry): 9am on Monday 11 May to 12 noon on Monday 22 June 2026, online with the school. Good to know

Late testing and moving to the area

Registrations after 12 noon on Monday 22 June 2026 are not accepted. A child too ill to sit may be offered an alternative date with a medical note. Children who missed the exam can join a second waiting list from National Offer Day and are tested only if no qualified children remain on the first list.

Who runs admissions

The school's governing body (Heckmondwike Grammar School Academy Trust) is the admission authority; families apply through their home local authority (Kirklees for residents), which makes the offer on Monday 1 March 2027.
