Tricky words have a part children can’t sound out yet, like the e in “the”. Read the word together, point to the tricky part, and sound out the rest. Then trace it slowly, saying each letter, and write it without looking.
A few words at a time is plenty. Keep a finished sheet by the door and read the words each time you go out.
Play the phonics games, where Thena says every sound, or print a sound mat to keep beside the sheet.
Match words to their pictures and write in the missing sounds, from CVC words to long vowel sounds.
