Sound buttons are how schools in England show the sounds in a word: a dot under a sound written with one letter, a line under two or three letters that make one sound, like the sh in ship. Children press each button as they say its sound, then blend them into the word.
Say each word together first, stretching it out. A child who can hear the sounds in a word can spell it, and one who can see them can read it.
Play the phonics games, where Thena says every sound, or print a sound mat to keep beside the sheet.
Match words to their pictures and write in the missing sounds, from CVC words to long vowel sounds.
Read, trace and write each word on handwriting lines, or find them all in a word search.
