MSTAR practice test 2027
In Maryland, the grades 3-8 test is the MSTAR, short for Maryland System of Testing Academic Readiness. Here’s what we could confirm about the 2027 test, and a free math practice set for each grade.

Free practice by grade
A set of math questions in the style of the MSTAR for each grade, in the online formats state tests use, marked as soon as it’s done.

- March 29 - May 28, 2027.
- How it’s taken
- Taken on a computer.
What’s changing
MSTAR replaces MCAP for grades 3-8 ELA and math from spring 2027 (MCAP's fifth and final full administration was 2025-26). MSDE describes it as shorter, more precise, with updated accessibility features and better online reporting for families. High school and other tests stay on MCAP in 2026-27 and move to MSTAR in 2027-28.
Official practice
We haven’t found an official practice test to link to yet. Your child’s school can tell you where the state’s own practice is.
The sets here aren’t real MSTAR questions: Thena writes every one in code, in the style of the test, and never copies a state’s own.
Questions about the MSTAR

Are these real MSTAR questions?
No. Thena writes every question in code, in the style of the MSTAR, and never copies a real test's questions. The state's own pages have its official materials.
