The Judd School
The Judd School in Tonbridge is a boys’ grammar school with a mixed sixth form and 180 Year 7 places. It sets no test of its own: boys need a grammar assessment in the Kent Test, and places then go strictly by score, 157 in its Inner Area and 23 for the rest of England. The lowest scores offered for September 2026 were 389 and 403.

Admissions
The test
The Kent Test (Kent Procedure for Entry to Secondary Education, PESE), organised by Kent County Council: an English and maths paper, a reasoning paper and a writing task. Judd sets no test of its own.
What qualifies
Boys need a grammar assessment in the Kent Test: for September 2027 entry an aggregate of 345 or more with no single score below 111 (332 and 108 the year before). Places then go strictly by aggregate Kent Test score, with distance as the tie-break; for September 2026 the lowest scores offered were 389 in the Inner Area and 403 in the Outer Area (2025: 371 and 398).
Who gets priority
Of the 180 places, 157 go to the Inner Area (postcodes TN1 to TN4, TN8 to TN15, ME18, ME19, TN16 1 and TN16 2, DA4 0, plus Halstead parish) and 23 to the Outer Area (the rest of England). In each area looked after and previously looked after children come first, then the highest Kent Test scores, then distance, then lots; within the Inner Area up to 5 places go to boys on free school meals, then pupil premium, who would not otherwise get a place. There is no sibling priority.
Registering
Registration ran on Kent County Council's website from 1 June to 1 July 2026. Boys at Kent primary schools sat the test at school on Thursday 10 September 2026; others sat it on Saturday 12 or Sunday 13 September 2026. Results reached parents on Thursday 15 October 2026.
Open events
Open mornings for Year 6 boys with likely scores on 20, 21 and 22 October 2026 (9.15am to 10.15am, booked after results), and an open evening for Year 5 families in June 2027 (5pm to 8pm, no booking, date to be announced). Sixth form open evening on Tuesday 20 October 2026.
Good to know
Boys to Year 11; the sixth form also admits girls (140 external Year 12 places). A voluntary aided school whose governing body is its own admission authority, with no faith criteria; up to 4 extra places in its autism Specialist Resource Provision are allocated by KCC to children with an EHCP. Free school meals and pupil premium applicants had to return the Supplementary Information Form by 31 October 2026; Kent applications closed on 2 November 2026, offers come on 1 March 2027, appeals must be lodged by 13 April 2027 and the waiting list runs to 31 January 2028. The applicants figure counts every application naming Judd (400 as first preference) in DfE school-level data, including boys not assessed as grammar. The policy defines the Outer Area as the rest of England, while the school's catchment page says mainland UK.
