Rochester Grammar School
Rochester Grammar School is a girls’ grammar school with a mixed sixth form and 205 Year 7 places, taking girls through the Medway Test. Girls assessed as suitable aren’t ranked by score: its criteria decide, from pupil premium children and sisters to four of its trust’s primary schools, then distance.

Admissions
The test
The Medway Test (Medway's 11+), run by Medway Council with papers written for it by GL Assessment: English, mathematics and reasoning (verbal, non-verbal and spatial).
What qualifies
Girls must be assessed as suitable for grammar school: English and maths standardised scores count double and reasoning once, and the pass mark is set so that 26% of Medway's cohort pass. The minimum total weighted score was 478 for September 2027 admission (481 for 2026, 482 for 2025). Girls who pass are not ranked by score; the oversubscription criteria decide.
Who gets priority
In order: looked after and previously looked after girls; pupil premium (current free school meals, then free meals in the last 6 years, then service children), with no fixed number of places and a Supplementary Information Form due by 31 October 2026; sisters at RGS; girls at four Thinking Schools Academy Trust Medway primaries (New Horizons, The Gordon, All Faiths and Cedars); staff children; health reasons; then distance. Distance breaks ties within each criterion, and the furthest distance offered for September 2026 was 18,311.80 metres.
Registering
Registration ran on Medway Council's Parent Portal from 18 May to 12 June 2026. Girls at Medway maintained primary or junior schools sat the test at school on 15 and 16 September 2026; others sat it at a Medway test centre on 19 or 20 September 2026. Results were emailed on 14 October 2026.
Open events
Open day on Saturday 3 October 2026, with tours by appointment every school day from 5 to 15 October 2026. Sixth form open evening on Wednesday 25 November 2026, 6pm to 7.30pm.
Good to know
Girls 11 to 16 with a mixed sixth form (20 external Year 12 places; at least 4 GCSEs at grades 6 to 9 with grade 5 in maths and English). An academy in the Thinking Schools Academy Trust, which is its own admission authority, with no faith criteria. Medway residents applied by 31 October 2026, offers come on 1 March 2027 and the waiting list runs to 31 December 2027. Medway Test marks cannot be resat, remarked or appealed, but families can still appeal for a place. The applicants figure is total applications for September 2026 (838 per Medway Council and DfE, 240 of them first preferences), for 205 offers.
