Newstead Wood School
Newstead Wood School in Orpington is a girls’ grammar school with a mixed sixth form and 168 Year 7 places. Its own test is verbal and non-verbal reasoning in one round, the required standard is 210 unless that wouldn’t fill the places, and its policy says no places have been offered to girls living outside its 9-mile radius.

Admissions
The test
Newstead Wood's own selection test, sat at the school in one round: a multiple-choice Verbal Reasoning paper and a Non-Verbal Reasoning paper, standardised and age-weighted by an independent external company. It is not the Bexley test or a shared Bromley test.
What qualifies
The required standard is a score of 210 unless the school must lower it to fill its 168 places; girls at or above it are then ranked by total age-adjusted score, with the Non-Verbal Reasoning paper separating equal scores. The cut-off score on National Offer Day 2026 was 225.
Who gets priority
After girls with an EHC plan naming the school, places go to looked after and previously looked after girls at or above the required standard, then girls on pupil premium or service premium living within a 9-mile radius of the school at or above the standard, then by rank order of score to girls living within 9 miles (and daughters of staff employed for 2 years or more), then girls outside 9 miles. The policy says no places have been offered to girls living outside the 9-mile radius; there is no sibling priority.
Registering
Families registered on the school's online Supplementary Information Form from 1 May to 30 June 2026, with no late registrations. The test was held at the school on 24 and 25 September 2026 (the FAQs) and results were emailed between 16 and 22 October 2026, before the council form deadline of 31 October 2026.
Open events
The Year 7 open morning is held in late June or early July for girls in Year 5: it was on Saturday 4 July 2026 and the next is on Saturday 26 June 2027 (booking needed). The Sixth Form open evening is on Thursday 26 November 2026.
Good to know
A highly selective girls' school in the United Learning trust, with a co-educational Sixth Form that takes at least 40 external students. The applicants figure is council application forms naming the school as any preference for September 2026 entry (DfE applications and offers statistics), when 190 places were offered; the school also says it received 1510 registrations to sit its test, a figure it gives as being for entry in September 2025. A girl can sit the test only once; offers come from the home council on 1 March 2027 and the waiting list runs to 31 December 2027.
